AMA Donates to Youth Club

Argentia, NL. The Argentia Management Authority (AMA) is pleased to announce that an in-kind donation of lumber material was presented to the P4 Youth Club in the Town of Placentia to assist with their roof repair project. AMA suggested that the lumber could be used in the actual repair of the roof, or the material could be auctioned off to the highest bidder, and the monies receive applied to the roof project. The P4 Youth Club chose to auction the material on October 5th and the successful bid price received amounted to four thousand six hundred and fifty dollars ($4650).

On hand for the presentation of the lumber that was salvaged from the demolition of three single housing units on the Southside of Argentia, AMA Chairperson, Mr. Harvey Mercer said, “that the P4 Youth Club provides a much needed and valuable service to the children and youth in the Town of Placentia and surrounding areas with an excellent facility for both social and recreational activities. The Club also hosts important educational programs that teaches and disseminates information on the harmful effects of drugs and alcohol use, choosing healthier lifestyles, etc., to encourage the proper use of leisure time to our young people.”

Ms. Philomena Viscount, position with the P4 Youth Club, expressed her appreciation to the AMA, and said, “The community may already be aware that the P4 have been raising funds to repair our roof over the past several months. To assist us with the roof repairs, the AMA have kindly donated a substantial amount of lumber that has helped us reach our financial goal. We would like to thank the Argentia Management Authority for their generous donation.”

AMA, as a non-profit association ourselves, understands the challenge that non-profit associations have in finding the necessary revenues and/or funding to carry out their mandated programs, not to mentioned, regular maintenance repairs. We have always been, and will continue to be, a big supporter, where and when it is possible for us to do so, of organizations like the P4 Youth Club.
